jonny_bravo Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Had the Gal 2 weeks, thought I had best check the mechanism, wound down fine but then decided to dump the wheel on the way back up. Drilled out the rivets and its the white gear drom the worm drive that's sheared in two :( , don't suppose anyone has one left over from a rebuild that they would sell? Quote
SilverBeast Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 Exactly the same happened to mine the first time I tried it after buying mine. I replaced my mechanism with one from a MKI I got off ebay. This mechanism is all metal. I hammerited mine and greased well before fitting Quote
jonny_bravo Posted March 29, 2013 Author Report Posted March 29, 2013 Ah, so does the mk1 mechanism share any parts with the mk2 ? My local scrappy have a mk1 in... Quote
gregers Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 iirc this has been asked before suggest you try searching using different terms? as you have only had it 2 weeks did you not think of taking it back to the dealer(thats if you bought from 1?) Quote
SilverBeast Posted March 29, 2013 Report Posted March 29, 2013 The design is different on the MKI (It's not in the box), so you can't change parts of the mechanism from one to the other(except possibly the cable and wheel hanger I suppose), but you can just swap out the whole mechanism and it will just fit. MKI mechanisms had there own problems too. The wire can fray and snap, and the wheel hanger can corrode if you don't keep any eye on it, and deposit the wheel on the road. If I recall someone on the Forum had it do this while they were driving!. Quote
artgal Posted April 27, 2013 Report Posted April 27, 2013 Hi how come this didn't become a ford recall? I have 05 mk2 the other day I thought I have never lowered the spare, I turned the nut less than a quarter turn and the unused wheel dropped to the ground!! I have removed the 4 rivets and yes u guessed the white plastic cog is in half. It is a design fault. Anyone know where they are made, maybe the manufacturer could repair or replace ? I have been quote £90 plus vat by local Ford stealer in Horsham Any ideas welcomed Quote
